Nutrition & Food Philosophy
I believe in eating low-glycaemic foods (also known as low GI) i.e. low sugar. Sugar creates an unnatural environment in the body that leads to fat gain, blood sugar and other hormonal imbalances, can lead to obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
The healthy eating approach I endorse is a diet full of clean, natural, organic, unprocessed foods i.e. eating foods in their most natural state. Foods such as low Gl fruits such as berries and citrus fruits, plenty of green vegetables. Protein from grass fed meats, wild caught fish, organic eggs. Some healthy fats such as avocados, olives, nuts and seeds, olive and coconut oil. Fermented foods such as sauerkraut, kimchee, kefir and kombucha.
Eating in this way helps created an environment in the body that can speed up the metabolism and help burn body fat. It can also enhance energy, mental clarity, stop cravings and help you feel satiated.
I would not put my approach to eating into a specific category. If I had to say specifically, it would be: a focus on clean, natural foods delivering maximum depth of nutrition to have our bodies function as nature intended.
I would use ‘superfoods’ however I believe that broccoli and blueberries are just as much superfoods as spirulina, chia seeds and maca powder!
I would agree with the principles of Paleo, dairy free, low GI, low carb, low sugar, Dr Chris Kresser, Dr Mark Hyman, Dr Mercola, I Quit Sugar, Patrick Holford, Mind Body Green, Life Extension.
Although not Vegan myself, I am into ‘plant based’ and “free-from” recipes. I would however swap out certain ingredients to ensure recipes are as low GI as possible. For example, I would not eat/recommend dried fruits, dates, honey, molasses, agave etc as they still create an impact on blood sugar in the body. I advise clients to combine low GI starches and carbohydrates in a specific way in order to ensure getting complete proteins from their foods. It’s important to understand the difference between complete and incomplete protein foods. People in the Vegan area I rate are Deliciously Ella, Natasha Corrett (Honestly Healthy) and Naturally Sassy.
