Organisers of the British Urban Film Festival have announced that this year’s event has been extended from 6 to 7 days with #the advent of Shakespeare Sunday – an afternoon of Shakespeare-themed short film screenings set in the modern day.

Romeo & Juliet – The Nigerian Edition is directed by Kariba Nwodo,  Othello Noir is directed by Martin Denham and M.A.N (Melanin Acknowledged Notably) is directed by Natasha Rosetta Joseph.

All 3 films were submitted in the Race To BUFF 2018 campaign and have been granted a special slot at this year’s festival.
Othello Noir is the second short film that director Martin Denham has garnered success with as a BUFF festival selection. Dear Mr Cameron was screened as part of BUFF 2012 and went on to be nominated for a BUFF Award in 2015.
The climax to BUFF 2018 is now set for Sunday 10 June and Curzon Soho in London will host all 3 screenings including a live Q&A with the directors and available cast.
The screening and Q&A will be hosted by BUFF Honorary Award Recipient 2016, actor Wil Johnson.

In 2004, Johnson played the title character in the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company’s Othello. In 2016, Johnson was cast as the Earl of Kent in the Talawa Theatre Company and Royal Exchange Manchester co-production of King Lear. Johnson received praise for his performance, with the Guardian writing “giving depth to straight simplicity” and the Manchester Theatre Awards saying that “… wrongest servant Kent is played with passion and often with humour by Wil Johnson”.

Writer, broadcaster, and personal advisor  John Byrne will be joining the Q&A.  For over a decade, John has been a career advisor to The Stage Newspaper interviewing well over 3000 theatre and screen industry professionals ranging from beginners to established actors, directors, producers and technical crew. Recipient of the IARA award for Diversity in 2016, John will be offering his advice on acting and career choices for emerging talent.

The event starts 3.30pm
